Hierarchical Structure of the Church of Ambazonia (CoA)

The Church of Ambazonia (CoA) serves as an umbrella church for all Christian denominations and congregations within Ambazonia. It provides a unifying structure and spiritual leadership for the diverse churches operating in the region, while respecting their individual traditions and practices.

The CoA seeks to foster spiritual unity, social transformation, and moral renewal in the Republic of Ambazonia through faith in Christ and cooperation among all Christian bodies.

Below is an expanded hierarchical structure of the Church of Ambazonia, reflecting its role as an umbrella organization:

1. Founder and Leader (Dr. Florentin Fonche)

  • Role: The supreme spiritual head and visionary founder of the Church of Ambazonia. As both the Founder and Leader of the CoA and President of the Republic of Ambazonia, Dr. Fonche embodies the covenant between faith and nationhood.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Providing overarching spiritual, moral, and prophetic leadership to guide both Church and nation.
    • Representing the CoA internationally and serving as the chief symbol of unity among all Ambazonian Christians.
    • Appointing or confirming the Patriarch/Archbishop and presiding over key ecclesiastical and national ceremonies.
    • Ensuring the Church remains faithful to biblical truth and the mission of liberation, peace, and righteousness.

2. Patriarch / Archbishop (Primate of the Church of Ambazonia)

  • Role: The highest ecclesiastical authority under the Founder, functioning as the chief shepherd and spiritual overseer of all dioceses and denominations within Ambazonia.
    In biblical analogy, this office corresponds to the apostolic oversight seen in the early Church (cf. Acts 15).
  • Responsibilities:
    • Providing doctrinal guidance and ensuring theological consistency across the Church.
    • Ordaining Bishops and approving appointments of senior clergy.
    • Representing the CoA in national and global ecumenical and interfaith settings.
    • Promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation among the faithful.

3. Bishops (Diocesan or Regional Overseers)

  • Role: Oversee dioceses or provinces of the Church, serving as spiritual fathers and administrators. Each Bishop shepherds the clergy and faithful within their region.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Administering dioceses, ordaining priests and deacons.
    • Guiding doctrinal purity and pastoral discipline.
    • Implementing Church policies and national Christian development programs.
    • Convening diocesan synods for spiritual renewal and local governance.

4. Archdeacons (Vicar Generals and Deanery Overseers)

  • Role: Serve as principal assistants to Bishops, coordinating multiple parishes and managing diocesan logistics.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Supervising clusters of parishes.
    • Supporting clergy welfare, education, and community engagement.
    • Ensuring diocesan programs align with CoA national vision.

5. Priests / Pastors (Local Church Leaders)

  • Role: Primary shepherds of local congregations, responsible for worship, teaching, and pastoral care.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Conducting services, sacraments, and pastoral ministries.
    • Teaching scripture and leading evangelism.
    • Providing moral and social guidance in their communities.
    • Implementing CoA programs locally.

6. Deacons

  • Role: Ministers of service and support to priests, embodying the biblical model of ministry to the poor, widows, orphans, and the marginalized (Acts 6:1–6).
  • Responsibilities:
    • Assisting in liturgical roles, outreach, and charitable initiatives.
    • Helping coordinate parish welfare and youth activities.
    • Building bridges between the Church and the community.

7. Lay Leaders (Non-Ordained Leaders)

  • Role: Devout and selected Christians entrusted with local leadership in education, finance, evangelism, and ministries.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Leading church committees, prayer fellowships, and service groups.
    • Advising clergy on community and development matters.
    • Supporting the Church’s growth through volunteerism and applied faith.

8. Ordinary Members (The Laity)

  • Role: The faithful congregation forming the living body of Christ and the CoA’s foundation.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Participating in worship, sacraments, and church life.
    • Supporting ministries financially and morally.
    • Witnessing through godly living and civic engagement.

9. Church Committees and Ministries

  • Role: The operational arms of the Church for evangelism, education, and social action.
  • Key Ministries:

10. General Assembly (Governing Council)

  • Role: Supreme deliberative body representing all dioceses and denominations within the CoA.
